Foliomedia

Finally, a New Site, Sort of

For those of you who have periodically returned to Foliomedia looking to see what Dylan Smith has been up to, you will find that it has, once again, emerged as something inchoate. This is my new blog; not my design. I hope to redesign it soon. Please come again to witness the development unfold.

For those of you who have never been to Foliomedia, welcome. This is where I’ll be journaling about my life as a programmer. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, but mostly you’ll find items relating to things I’m learning about online. It is my hope to give back where I can. It’s about time.

By day, I’m lead developer at Struck, Portland. We do a lot of work in Django and Flash, and this is my place to do things a little differently. I deployed this site today using Capistrano. I’m using Ruby on Rails as my application framework. My blog platform is Enki, which I chose because it’s bare bones, and will provide just enough to get started with Rails, while allowing me to easily build to suit. My server (an Ubuntu slice at slicehost) is running Nginx with Passenger.

More info about the joys and challenges of these deployment choices is forthcoming.
